If you want to know about Franklin's deranged mind, read this:
I posted a thread the other day about Franklin forging my posting name on ACF <hummingbird> to post on <uk.politics.misc> where I used to post using that name. Obviously he wants to make a connection between ME and HIS forged posts on that newsgroup. This new post of his on <uk.p.m> is quite amazing and a perfect... more »

Favorite file manager?
I need another file manager program to replace windows explorer. I currently use 2xExplorer, and there are a lot of good things I like about it. But it seems to be going squirley on me. Whenever the directory has a lot of files, it refreshes agonizingly slow. I'm talking when you click down to the next page of a list of files you might as... more »

Negative search
Anyone aware of a free tool (for MS Windows XP or Vista) that that can search for files having extension NOT belonging to a specified set? E.g. search for files not being images - i.e. extension not in the set (jpg, tif, png, raw, gif) - in a specified directoryhierarchy. TIA /BJ

Sun Java JRE 1.6.0 update 11
<[link]> Two things: 1) 1.6.0 update 10 was automatically removed as it should have been. 2) My connection was lost and I had to reboot to renew it again. I have no clue to what exactly happened, but the same thing happened when I installed 1.6.0 update 10: complete loss of connection.... more »

chrome/gmail incompatibility
Google Chrome is freeware, right? Here is something that seems to be a bug for those of you who use Chrome and Gmail. If you try to Forward a message with an embedded image it strips the image using Chrome. I have tried it in both Newer Version and Older Version of Gmail. Using Internet Explorer 6 or Mozilla Firefox the... more »

Firefox add-on for research: Zotero
Here's the project's blurb: ...<[link]> It'll run as a add-on for Firefox 2.x or 3.0, Netscape Navigator 9.0, or Flock 0.9.1 on Windows, Mac, or Linux. What's interesting (to me) is that this is another example of a project using sqlite for its back-end. I've installed it & noodled around but that's it. It looks as if Zotero... more »

gOS: a "netbook" operating system
Looking for a supposedly light-weight Linux disto? gOS v3.0 was recently released and is the OS of choice for the new MSI netbook. It's based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and, unlike /Linpus/, it has a blessedly neutral-sounding name. Since gOS is a netbook OS, it's heavy on the "Web 2.0" "Cloud" concept. Google gadgets abound, etc.... more »
